How to blog

Want to know how to blog?

Like everything to to do with websites, blogging has its own 'sub-community' of experts with its own techniques, quirks and methods.

However blogging - or to be more precise RSS - is a superb tool for all people wanting to build and run an internet based home business.

Not only is is a superb way of getting your keyword rich content 'out there' it's one of the most effective ways I know to establish a brand new website and create an audience almost immediately.

I started my first blog as an experiment, not quite sure where it would lead, but within a month I was completely convinced about it as a website building technique.

I'd even go so far as to say now that if a client came to me asking me to build a website, I'd ask them first if they know how to blog and if they didn't I'd build them a blogging site and teach them how.

It's so much better than a linear website that just sits there and never puts itself about.

Use RSS and get blogging!

Blogging basics - an overview

If you really want to know how to blog, you need to get your head around a basic concept called RSS.

RSS stands for 'really simple syndication'.

It's free and is superb for websites with frequently changing content ... like your website should be!

Someone visiting your website - and liking the content - subscribes to your RSS feed using a simple procedure.

Thereafter, every time you create or update new content, that RSS subscriber gets an automatic update.

What better way to improve content distribution and repeat traffic to your website?

How to blog ... and make it work

I set up my first blog more as an experiment really, at the same time as building several conventional websites.

I wanted to know how to blog first-hand, to find out the tips, tricks and techniques needed for online success.

I couldn't believe how quickly it established itself in the search engines, how much more business it did than all my other static sites and how much more interest it generated in such a short time.

I became very quickly sold on blogging and learnt how to blog by reading widely and watching what others did.

It instantly built traffic and convinced me of the need to embed RSS into my websites.

On this website, I've combined what I believe are two essential techniques for web success, and accordingly I'm moving my trial blog over to this site now to enhance its performance further.

The two techniques are:

  • Keyword rich, niche content ... and lots of it!
  • RSS distribution of content

This website works just like a blog, in that I am syndicating all my content via RSS feeds, though it does not use one of the 'standard' blogging tools like Wordpress or Blogger.

That doesn't matter, the RSS process is just the same even though it looks like a conventional website.

Make the blogging process simpler

Blogging and people graphic Like multi level marketing which sheds new recruits by the bucket load because they hate prospecting, blogging has a similar 'big negative' which puts people off.

The abandonment rate of blogs is high because a) bloggers run out of things to say or simply give up writing regular posts b) they feel like their blog is just a random series of posts which don't really come together as a cohesive website.

By creating a keyword rich, niche content website you will overcome both of these problems.

Firstly, your detailed keyword research at the beginning of the niche choosing process will almost write your content for you.

You'll have so many keyword prompts for topics, that you'll have more than enough content to work on.

Secondly, because you've researched a niche, which you've backed up with information about demand, supply and profitability, you'll know that people are going to find your site.

Rather than being a random collection of thoughts on a loose theme, it will be a cohesive collection of articles creating a sound body of knowledge on your chosen topic ... the perfect blog!
